Yes that is a good option.
That 66-70 piece would probably require a lot of mods by a similarly-talented metal fabricator, if it could be made to work at all for a reasonable cost.
Did you try finding a cowl patch at an old-timey junkyard? I guess Most of them are probably are rusty too though, unless in a dry desert area. (Terrible design by Chrysler Corporation!)
I remember years ago a guy in a local Mopar club here needed some item for his restoration and ended up having to buy a whole parts car to get that item, then selling the parts car or parting it out (can't recall which). The joys of restoring old Mopars versus easy parts gathering for F*rd and Che*y. :)

Cut out the piece you want to renew and make or pay someone to make it
for you. There are metal workers all over the country/world that can
do such work. Look at what the shops on TV build!
