Re: Car Selling Scams

There is faith required by both parties, the seller and the buyer, if those making the transaction are not doing business in person.

The seller should not ship the vehicle to the buyer until the funds have been received and the funds are placed safely in the bank.

An honest buyer will willingly wait the few days until their payment has been fully placed in an account before the vehicle is released or sent to them.

Otherwise, do the deal in person and with cash only.

Selling my '65 Belvedere. So far, I've gotten two bogus checks. Both were for exactly $10,000 more than the agreed upon price. One was a stolen check written on a closed account. The other was a fake check using a stolen bank account number. Always verify the check, I'd suggest even a certified check (these were not).

Lessons/observations. Be suspicious if:
1. they ask few or no questions.
2. Agree to your asking price quickly.
3. They are pushing you to cash the check - like, do it NOW - (so you don't have time to verify it).
4. If they send more money than you agreed. (shipping cost are not $10,000)
5. Would you spend $30-40,000 without seeing the car? I wouldn't.

My question is: how do you get paid when you sell a car?
