Now this is where I get a bit ticked of. I did not ever once say no gaskets in headers so please dont suggest it. 
Headers being an unmachined crudly finished device require good strong thick gaskts. I suspect though if the flange was machined properly and good and thick they would also work with out them however so far I have never seen machined headers.
