this is why edelbrocks are good buy.
my engine had 915's with 2.19 valves, a pro shop
did as much porting as possible, the cost for this set-up
was around 1900 bucks. well, one hot day, the engine 
got hot and cracked one. (maybe too much porting?)
i put a set of 88cc eddy's (1300bucks) on, the car had more
top end power, ran about 1 tenth quicker and did not have to have 110 gas
 
i believe it is very hard to beat aluminum heads, whether it is eddy's
for the street, or indy's for the track, indy sr's can be had for roughly
the same price as a decked out pair of steel heads.

That's why you build the engine with 1 more point of mech. 
compression,to compensate for the loss of power in an aluminum head.
