Yes, the plain V8 is a small block.
If your Satellite (like my Belvedere) came with a 361 (cool motor BTW), the 
fender badges would be Commando V8.
Frank has them as does Len Dawson.

Hello list:

I was trying to sell some V8 markings that came off my 65 361-4speed
Satellite.

They are simply a V and an 8 with the V being chrome and red checkered.

I have been informed that the correct ones for a 361 should say
"commando V8"

The car also came with a 383 4-barrel setup so a previous owner might have
sleeperized it.

I would appreciate any comment about a properly marked 361.

I did notice that the 361 is listed as "commando" in the factory service
manual.
