forged versus cast cranks

i went ahead and bought that forged  steel 318 crankfor my 340. It was
only 35.00 and the journals look beautiful.
    But anyway I am just wonderin for wonderins sake where the  usage
    cutoff  point is betwwen a  cast crank and a forged crank.
