 Heres a neat book I picked up the other day at our Public Library, any
 gearhead should find  interesting as long as u arent too xenophobic.
   Its called "Legendary car engines" by  a guy named Simister.
    It covers the  small block chevy, the 289 ford, the Chrysler Hemi ,
    and a whole host of engines  from the  ferrari colombo V12 to  the
    Volkswagen pancake 4  , and a whole host  of motors i never heard
    of.
   Though not purely American stuff its very interesting to read about
   the  engineers and the development of their engines  
   really cool photography too
