I have never seen a vin tag from original 1964 that was attached with
rivits. they all are glued on with some sort of glue and the two spot welds.
I just looked at my original car and there are no rivits. I also looked at
my 64 vert that has been restored and the retorer had removed the tag to
paint the car and then rivited back in place. never heard of tape I guess,
both tags start with two stamped numbers and the rest are pressed . Dave O

Canadian built cars often have alumuinum sort of oval vin tags that are
screwed on. Amerian cars seem to often have steel amchine generated vin
tags rivited. I dont know if that is a hard and fast rule but I have seen it
often on our cars.
