I only say its from a Mustang because my Grandad said that's what he took it out of. This is not the entire thing, I took it out of its little pod thingy which is still attached to my steering wheel. Look familiar to you??

Its just a tach by itself, than its not a Mustang unit. The only factory column mounted tachs were the Ralley packs. It was 2 pods on it with a tach on one side and clock on the other. Pics here: http://www.hotautoweb.com/66stangc.html
If this is what you have, you should sell it. It is worth more than a new tach.

Thanks a million Bob, it is clamped to my steering wheel with a big hose clamp lol. I hope to get a better one but I desperately needed one as I'm preparing the car for bracket racing. I'll read the other messages here and see what they think. I guess I'm just going to have to try it. Thanks again.

I dunno about the tach wiring on a Mustang, and I don't guess a brand F tach would do irrepairable harm to your Polara, but the wires on my cheapie tachs from "AwfulZone" have black, white, RED, and green wires. On them, the Red is to a switched +12 volt source, the Black is ground, Green goes to the coil _negative_ terminal, and White is to the dashboard lights for the light in the tach. Note, only ONE wire goes to the coil; the Green to the coil negative.


In my experience, the coil negative is pretty commonly used for tach signal, but that is no guarantee that brand F didn't do it differently.
The best source would probably be a Factory Service Manual for the Mustang. OTOH, maybe someone else here knows for sure! I do recall the instructions for those AwfulZone tachs saying "don't ground the green".
