Were it a 300L, the original engine would've been a 413 with mechanical cam 
(360 bhp as opposed to the 340 bhp that came in my Polara). If its just a 
300, it could've come with a 413, 383 or possibly even a 361.

I ran across this 65 Chrysler 300 while on the road
today. It looks like a solid car but the owner said a
couple of more items need to be hooked up like the
starter and exhaust. It looks like he was in the
process of installing a 383 but hasn't finished. He
said he also had the original engine. Would that have
been a 426 ? It didn't look like it had any rust at
all. The car is in Lahoma, Oklahoma. The owner's
number is 580-541-6050 and he wanted $1400.
