While this is not definitive proof of the assumption it certainly lends credence to the fact that there is lurking somewhere a large manufacturer that supplies many of the vendors selling carpet.

Here is a clip from AIU's website:

About Our Product and Pricing......

Auto Interior and Upholstery is proud to be a large volume dealer for our manufacturer selling at their top level. This means that since we sell large quantities of carpets, we have been given their lowest purchasing price. We, in turn, pass these low prices on to you, our customer, offering impeccable quality.

The carpet we sell is the highest quality aftermarket carpet available
The carpets that we sell are identical in every way, to the carpet of any competitor who sells for the same company

Our large volume sales also allow us to have first hand knowledge about a wider variety of carpets
This allows us to better serve our customers and answer the questions that our customers may have about the product we sell
We provide installation information, and if needed, first hand installation information since all of our sales people have actually installed custom molded auto carpet

We offer carpets by the largest manufacturer of the highest quality aftermarket carpet in the industry.

So before you pay more for the exact carpet, exact quality--It's the same thing!--ask who's carpet the competitor is selling.
