A magnet will not stick to stainless. A file in a hidden area would tell.
If a magnet sticks it's stainless, if it doesn't it's aluminum.

Most of the reples indicated that the '64 Dodge grill is aluminum, though one reply said stainless. The guy who owns the grill at first thought it was stainless, but everyone who held it told him it is not heavy enough to be stainless.
He needs some welding work done on the grill. Is there a do-it-yourself metallurgical testing method to identify metal?
