Gary... The kickdown linkage affects the apply pressures for the clutches and bands inside the trans which dont really care if you shift manually or automatically,so,having no "kickdown linkage"(which is a misnomer in itself) WILL affect the trans internals...and quick,in a stock trans! Now ,having a manual valve body does not require this linkage as the valve body controls these pressures itself inside the trans.

Wrong.  It will help and last a lot longer if you shift it manually.   Still
need to get the linkage fixed , but you can drive it as long as you shift it
manualy.

i knew about the lack of throttle pressure problem.  but if i shift the
transmission manually is the car safe to drive??  i've been shifting
manually for two days now........
