The A727 was used as a heavy-duty transmission for cars with the A904.
Thus,
towing package =  heavy-duty transmission.

And the standard A904 would have been replaced by an A727.

I had a 67 Charger parts car Bill and it had an LA 318 with a 727. I
gave the tranny to a friend of mine who's putting behind an old Chrysler
331 Hemi in his 39 Willys sedan. Again I'm not sure if the 727 was a
Charger thing or the fact that it had a towing package.
