We fitted withh a late model 318 piston which i remachined . We decided that the silvolite 1278s will do the job fine for what he wants. They will be .030" down the hole but with the extra stroke and a .030 cut from the heads it should be about perfect. We have (gary and me built a lot of experimental engines using silvolite stock replacement pistons. Despite some of the wicked abuse and RPM we hve subjected them to we have yet to lose even one. A lot of them have m ben reworked as well. (I guess we did lose a ring land once after about 5 years inthe 460 stroker . I had forgotten but even then it had taken 5 years of hard competitive racing. Sorry about my last post. Didnt have my glasses. It is a 2 x 4bbl . May have to trim the pin bosses slightly to clear the crank but that is a piece fo cake on the lathe. Gary has focused his attention on this project now since he succeeded in getting his Mirada in the ten second zone. I see he now has it up for sale so i think he is thinking street. I started out with Polys as a teenager and have always liked them . Gary P deserves more than just a tiny credit for the strong revival of interest in this motor series. I am serious about the head redesign thing as well. If anyone has an old head and could cut it in half so as to seperate the upper and lower surface exposing the inner water jackets and such (would have to be cut through both the intake ports and the exhaust ports) I would be willing to flog a redesign so we could get it to flow with the big boys. After that i think a good casting shop could make some cores and recast us some new ones. Picture it. 318 Poly heads flowing 280 to 300 intake CFM. The mere thought brings a smile to my lips.
