The first thing I check, when someone claims ultra-low miles, is the rubber pad on the brake pedal: The pad shouldn't show ANY wear unless the car is also ultra-ancient. At 120,000 miles, there is typical some light to moderate wear. This may vary from car to car: today I test drove an low-miles 1941 Cadillac and the foot pad was completely gone. But all over indicators suggest the car is an excellent, original, low-miles car. Here are other things to inspect: The windlace (cord) around the driver's door: is it worn/frayed where the door or driver might strike it repeatedly? The surface surrounding the ignition key tumbler. The more wear or scratches, the more miles are on the car. The spare tire. Typically ultra-low miles cars retain their original spare tire. The engine surfaces. How dirty is it? I've had some dirty low-miles cars, but most have been unusually clean even if they were rusted out. I see that I may have to suck it up if I want my mopar. Is anyone doing this on a tight budget? I am 40 yrs old with 3 kids (3,6,8) and one on the way due in March. I have a fairly large mortgage, paying for my wifes Navigator, and to boot, my wife is on my back about the car. BOCK-BOCK-BOCK-BOCK, like a crazy hen. What is the secret? Fill me in on ways to fullfill my dream. Well, anyway, is there anyone near Reading, MA? This last car I found (64 Belvedere 4dr) is said to be in excellent shape. The way he talks, the only thing you would need to do is fix a small rip in one door panel. He claims it only has 20,000 original miles on the /6. How can anyone be sure of that? There was no 100,000 on those odometers right? I guess it's all about trust. I doubt I'll be able to get that one. He is asking $6500 for it. Out of my budget. If anyone is interested, email me at funderburk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx, and I will give you his name and phone number. Thank for listening guys.
