Am I missing something here? Why not get the headliner out to deny them another safe haven? If you're planning on replacing it anyway I'd just go ahead and rip it out now. They could multiply like, well, mice up there. I'm sure there are ways through the A, B,& C, pillar to the roof through the rocker panel. Getting the headliner out you'd also get some ventilation to get rid of the odor. That plus a good scrubbing with bleach should bring it back to a pleasant grease, oil, & evergreen tree cachet.
