I'd think that by the time you bought the parts for a 7.25 you could have bought an 8.75, certainly an 8.25 (LBP). Or find an inexpensive B Body housing and send it to Moser to cut down to A Body size and buy their axles. I've been fortunate (or just lucky) to have obtained four 8 & 3/4s for A Bodies 2.94 and 3.23 gears for my 4 A Bodies. On a side note I will be pulling a complete drum to drum 8 & 3/4 out of my 65 Coronet within the next couple of weeks (definitely non-SG and think 2.94 gears).

My '64 Valiant has its stock rear end. I'd like to get an 8 3/4" on it some day, when I do a four-barrel swap, but I was thinking about keeping and rebuilding the 7 1/4" for the time being. Is it hard to find parts, AND can this rear be beefed-up a bit? Some articles I've read make it sound like the 7 1/4" is a ticking time bomb, and I want my car to be as reliable as possible, and I want to stand on the gas from time to time, as well.A larger bolt pattern (4.5 instead of 4.0) would be nice, but not worth a huge investment for now.thanks!
