Turn Signal Wiring Harness Removal

OK, I give up, and it has to be something really obvious.
Working on disassembly of my 64 Belvedere steering column...
how in the world do you remove the directional switch/horn wiring from the
steering column jacket
and or cover/housing assembly. Page 8-80 of the 64 Shop Manual says nothing
about what appears to be a permanent situation at the connector end and up
top at the switch end.
The only solution appears to be cutting and then splicing the wires when we
re-assemble the darn thing. That can't be right! Please advise, Donny, 64
