Herr Don - Just for my 2 cents on the topic, I always torque the valve  
covers and iol pans and haven't had a leak since I started doing this some  time 
ago. I don't know if its because they make better gaskets or   covers/pans now, 
but it works for me.  I think I was probably  overtightening them in my 
younger wheaties days.   Joe
