In regards to removing the cables from the unit the FSM simply says to "disconect the the push button gearshift and parking lock cables from the control unit". They are a little more informative on the re-installation instructions, "Secure the cable housings by clamping them in the control brackets". As I recall you have to pry open the "C" shaped clamp to free one of the the cables. The other can be unbolted from the unit as it is attached to a separate bracket. Paul L.
