 I don't believe his would be a tapered axle as it's a '66 rear-end.

 He's not considering springs either as he says his look good. As long 
as they aren't sagging and ride to suit him they oughta be OK.

Probably a non-Mopar guy advising him on the diff unless it's a gear 
issue as compared to a strength issue. We know the 8&3/4's are strong.
