Could be part of the confusion. As mentioned here, the new temp sending units seem to make the gauge in 62-65s read toward the high side. I suppose your mechanic could remove that new temperature sending unit and temporarily plug in a gauge with a number readout to tell you what the actual temperature of the coolant is. Thanks, Gary H.
