The ones that have a nice sharp tip to probe into wires and a bulb that you can actually find replacements for. I usually start at the socket to see if there is voltage there. If so, then you need to do a little clean up work on the socket including possibly replacing the spring behind the contact plate which many times are rusty and have no tension left in them. If there's no power at the socket then I start tracing the wire back towards the source, testing along the way at likely spots, ie: connectors or places where it may have been spliced together.
