RE: Fearing the Worst

Bill: An axle hub may be bent or distorted. This typically happens from the stress of removal of drums from the tapered axles. Visually inspect the rear drums/hubs at the mating surfaces and/or separate the hubs from the drums and check them with a straight edge. These are very hard to find if your's is bent or distorted, so you may try heating
and beating the thing(s) so its true again.
Check the hubs first then move on to your axle bearings and races.
Highly unlikely you have a bent axle.
Good Luck! Donny, 64 Belvedere.

I've had a bend wheel on my Coronet that I finally got replaced on
Friday. However the "waddle" is had is still there somewhat, but not
nearly as bad. I will check the rest of the rims ASAP, but I'm afraid
the axle or flange are bent. Does anyone know if an axle or flange can
be straightened if it is bent? Should I start looking for a rear now?
