Jim...a small thing I could suggest is to have the camshaft fuel pump 
eccentic on the low side so the pump is easier to insatll...otherwise your 
fighting to install the pump with the arm compressed. Does this make any 
sense?

I am going to swap-in a new fuel pump (mechanical, stock type) on my
Valiant's 273.
Is there anything to watch out for in this process? I have not tackled one
of these before.

The one it has now is cracked, and leaking fuel.
