Tire pressures depend on what day it is.
?? If I am racing on a road course with street tires, I run 44 pounds or
the maximun on the sidewall for less wall flex. Tire mileage is not
important here.
?? For a smooth ride, non performance, you can run below about where tire
shops put them. But, the tire will wear on the outer edges. The tire will
run hotter. This is also less gas mileage.
?? A hard tire, riding mostly on the center of the tread will have less
roll resistence and better mileage. Less horsepower to get to speed. And,
it will wear out the center of the tread.
?? If a tire is riding with the pressure such as to have the load spread
out evenly across the tread will wear longer and evenly.
?? So, what is your preference is what you use for tire pressure.
?? A front engine car will have more weight there ad could use a couple
more in front than the rears.
?? The best way I have found is to use a laser temp gun and drive the car
about 5 straight miles, no curves. Take a reading across the tread,
assuming you have the correct alignment, and adjust according the the
readings. Center hotter than the edges, lower the pressure. Edges hotter,
raise the pressure. Both situations require a couple tests and air pressure
adjustments.
?? Towing also makes a difference. Passengers, a load in the trunk, etc.???

What tire pressures do you folks run your radial tires? The owners
manual of my 64 Dodge call for 26 and 28 psi (belted tires).
Do we ignore the listed pressures and go with 35ish that is more normal
on newer vehicles?
I use 35 psi but never asked this question before.
What do you think?
