I have used both techniques. The 3 arm puller, if you have one would be my first choice, BUT like George I had to use a pickle fork, BFH and I applied some heat to it with a torch. I get the pickle fork set, keep hammer hany, get the arm pretty hot, then...WHACK! Popped right off...Make sure it doesn't land on your foot...that sucks.
