Manifold modification question

In Don D's OR book he mentions grinding down the center dividers under 
the carbs to within 3/8". I'm thinking of doing this on my Weiand 
dual-quad WPD4D manifold. Of course I will remove it when I do. Upon 
replacement I am also thinking I should block off the cross over too. 

What are your thoughts?
