Every original A Body I've ever seen has been black behind the grille, Can't say for sure about B Bodies..

Were they all painted flat black from the factory ? My painter initially painted my 64 Savoy flat black behind the grill , but on the advice of a friend of mine, who's uncle owned a Dodge dealership back in day, I had the painter repaint it body color. Was it a mistake ?
