Check the battery cables: make certain the negative cable is clean and tight at the engine block and at the battery. Take it off and clean it and scuff it with some emery cloth; you may want to clean the + cable too.

http://www.madelectrical.com/electricaltech/amp-gauges.shtml shows the bulkhead connector on the firewall. 

You can get a simple test light at AZone to follow the current to see where the 12V goes/stops.
