Re: hardened valve seats

Amoco indeed had a unleaded white gas that we used to have to use in camping latterans and other camping equip. it supposedly would not foul the equip. I used it in all my cars starting in 1958 Dave O ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rich Kinsley" <rlkinsley@xxxxxxxxx>

I have wondered about this for years as when I had my first new car in

a 383 4bbl. 4spd. , that I drove at the drags most every week end or

N.C. to Pa. other week end. I used AMOCO white gas unleaded it worked
fine.
what is the diffenance between the unleaded of 1964 and the unleaded of
now.
I use 93 octane with an additive in my 64 426 street wedge with no
problems.

I toobought my first new car in '64. Mine was a '64 Dodge 330 2 dr post,
med blue with 383 4bbl, 4spd and 3:23 SG. I had a blast with that car.
Till I got drafted 6 months later :-(

Anyway, unleaded gas didn't come about umtil the mid-70's with the
advent of the smog stuff and cat converters. The AMOCO and others had
octanes available about up to 110 octane. "Regular" was rated at 92
octane as I recall. Maybe a tad higher like 94. 100 was about bottom
line for "Super" or "Supreme". I preferred the Chevron white pump. I
think it was around 105. Yeah, and it cost a whole 34cents/gal on a bad
day.
