Market size. Canada's market was (is) one tenth that of the U.S. And at that time Canada's standard of living was much lower than in the U.S. Thus poor sales of sporty and luxury models.

In mid-1962 Chrysler of Canada offered bucket seats as an option on Fury and Dart 440 2-door and 4-door hardtops. The buckets were from the Polara 500 as the Canadian-built 1962 Plymouth and Dodge models used the American Dart interior.

The option continued for 1963, on Fury and 440 2-door and 4-door hardtops and the now Canadian-built convertible. This year the Canadian Plymouth (Savoy, Belvedere, Fury) and Dodge (220, 330, 440) reverted to the Plymouth interior.

When the 1964 models were introduced, the bucket seats were offered as an option on the Fury and Polara hardtops and convertibles one last time. Early in the 1964 calendar year, Chrysler of Canada introduced the Sport Fury (VPx-H) and Polara 500 (VDx-H) models in 2-door hardtop and convertible body styles. The base engines were the slant six and 313 V8. Bucket seats continued as an option in the Fury and Polara 4-door hardtops. Yes, the American Sport Fury was VPx-P, but the Canadian was VPx-H. The interior trim on the body plate determined whether or not it was a true Sport Fury. The same held for the Polara 500.

Chrysler Canada offered the same lineup for 1965, only the Polara 500 was now the Monaco. Unlike south of the border, the Canadian Monaco was offered as a 2-door hardtop and convertible plus offered the slant six as the base engine. The 4-door hardtop Fury III and Polara 880 continued to offer bucket seats as an option. And the two series continued to be classified as "H" and not "P".

Should also point out that although the 1965 Dodge 330 and Polara 440 used the Plymouth Savoy and Fury II interiors, the Polara 880 and Monaco used the Fury III and Sport Fury seats and instrument panel. The Canadian Polara 880 and Monaco used the American Custom 880 door panels while the Canadian Sport Fury used the same door panels as the American Sport Fury.

For 1966 the bucket seat option on the Fury III and Polara 880 4-door hardtops was gone and the Sport Fury / Monaco models were now "P" series. Mid-year came the Plymouth VIP, although it was not until 1969 that the Canadian Dodge got its equivalent, the Monaco Brougham.

By the way, Chrysler Canada reprinted that article along with the issue's cover and distributed it as a brochure.

Positively glowing vintage article about test driving the new "furious" Fury.

Funny, this Fury has a Sport Fury bucket seat and console interior
but all the trim and badging is Fury.

Does anyone know why Canada didn't get a Sport Fury?
