Speedo cable

Clear DayHi all, two mornings ago my speedo started making noise.At first 
just in the mornings, but now it does it all the time and is getting worse. 
Speedo goes crazy, at 10 then goes to 50, back down to 5 back to 40 etc. 
Very erratic.   Question, is the cable  bad, or is it is in the head?  And 
is there a fix?  Thanks...
