vinegar and gaskets

OK, i am gonna try to see if i cant reuse my cudas rear window rubber.
  somebody mentioned soaking the  gasket in vinegar 24 hours to
rejuvenate it.    I think it was gary. not sure
  yes??  but what kind  of vinegar, regular old white vinegar??
