Pinion snubber

I remember once someone mentioning the proper postion for a pinion 
snubber. About how far from the floorboard should it be? Mine was about 
1" plus so I put it one notch up and just noticed that it actually 
touches the floor board. Whoops. No wonder it started riding so hard :-) 
What should it be?
