I use to always pull my coil wire and take it with me or put it in the trunk.I never lock my cars..pointless, they'll just bash the window in anyways.Just don't leave anything of really value in the car, simple as that really.I had a 65 Mustang Convertible as a teenager and I always left the top down and left it in the parking lot here in the Bay Area too never had a problem..I sold the car to my friend, he had the top up and locked the car and they slashed the top to get into the car and they didnt find anything to steal. My issue about leaving Classic Cars in a parking lot around here these days isnt theft, its morons who can't drive. My best friend Left his 1967 Camaro RS he had for over 16 years in his driveway,expensive Alarm,Etc etc.. Woke up at 5AM to go to Work and the car was gone! Didn't hear a thing.. Sometimes that alone is enough of a deterrent to make him give up and look for an easier target. Frankly since we used to hang horse thieves I have no problem at all with the death penalty for carthieves. Your best bet is to make sure you have adequate insurance God forbid just in case. All my old Mopars are insured with Grundy for an"Agreed Value" of no deductible comprehensive insurance for way more than Ihave invested in them. The agreed value is important, "stated value" is useless so check your policy. The premium is ridiculously cheap.
