Re: Tire opinions?

On my 63 Polara I have P225-6014's on front and P245-6015's on the back. Front and rear wheels are 7 inch Ansen Sprints and the tires are Cooper Cobras. It has a nice stance and drives very well with no clearance problems and with 3:23 gears it is freeway friendly. Ron ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Altemose" <jaltemoose@xxxxxxxxx>

Still thinking about tires for my 63 Polara 500. I've decided to go
with BFG Radial T/A's. BFG makes a radial red-line with Coker, but
I'd be paying about $100 per tire more for the red line. I currently
have P215-75R14 tires. Can I run 15 tires or am I restricted to 14?
I like the fat/skinny look. The widest 14 is a P245/60R14, which I
guess is wide enough. Should the aspect ratio match on the front? I
can get 215 or 225 in both 60 and 70. Does the 225 handle much better
than the 215? Is there a reason to pick the 70 over the 60?

As always, thanks.

Jim,

I agree with Gary on this. I run 15" 235 BFG T/A Radials on my 62 polara
and they ride and handle great.

Jim,

Since you asked for "opinions" I will tell you what I would do, safety and
performance first, looks second, price last.

With that criteria, I would choose the BFG radials and run the black
side/non-white letter side on the outside.

BFG's are safe, perform well for the street (I run BFG Drag Radials on the
back of my "Stock" '56 Plymouth w/Stroker motor), and I like the looks of
them with the blackwall side out.

I think that the "period correct" Coker tires are very expensive and do not last nearly as long as a modern radial and they certainly will not perform
compared to a radial or with any amount of HP.

My "opinion" as to what I have done and will continue to do for my cars.

Any opinions on new but period correct tires for 63 Polara 500? Any
opinions on where to get them? BFG or others vs.Coker? I'm currently
thinking Coker radial red-lines. My car is white with red trim and I
think the relines would look and perform good. I'm more worried about
safety an performance, but I also want to be as close to original as
possible.

Thanks.
