Re: Ruby Red in 1965?

The exterior colour was painted first, covering the sides, roof, front, 
rear, cowl, underhood fenders, hood, radiator crossmember, trunk lid, trunk 
floor, interior floor and anything that came in the way of the paint 
sprayer.

The body was then masked for the interior paint, sometimes called "upper 
door frame", in a gloss finish which was used in 1965 on -
- lower instrument panel
- ash tray
- glove box lid
- steering column and gearshift control
- side and upper windshield garnish mouldings
- roof rail
- backlight garnish mouldings
- sedan and wagon centre pillar
- wagon seat and floor panel components

Various interior parts were finished in a suede finish, in a colour matching 
the above gloss colour -
- upper instrument panel
- lower windshield garnish mouldings
- defroster vents
- instrument panel A/C discharge vents
- instrument panel radio speaker grille

plus a low gloss finish that was used on -
- bucket seat tracks
- B pillars
- rear radio speaker grille

For 1965, although there were 16 exterior colours -
A - Gold Metallic
B - Black
C - Blue
D - Medium Blue Metallic
E - Dark Blue Metallic
H - Copper Metallic
J - Light Turquoise
K - Medium Turquoise Metallic
L - Dark Turquoise Metallic
N - Pale Silver Metallic
N - Barracuda Silver Metallic *
P - Ruby Red
S - Ivory
T - Medium Red Metallic
W - White
X - Light Tan
Y - Medium Tan Metallic
* - mid-year intro for Barracuda only

There were but ten gloss interior colours -
- Black
- Medium Turquoise Metallic
- Medium Blue Metallic
- Medium Tan Metallic
- Light Gold Metallic
- Dark Gold Metallic
- Medium Gold Metallic
- Silver Metallic
- Red
- Dark Red Metallic

six suede interior colours -
- Black
- Dark Blue
- Dark Turquoise
- Dark Tan
- Dark Gold
- Dark Red

and nine low-gloss interior colours -
- Silver Metallic
- Black
- Dark Turquoise Metallic
- Medium Turquoise Metallic
- Dark Blue Metallic
- Medium Blue Metallic
- Medium Tan Metallic
- Light Gold Metallic
- Dark Red Metallic

Thanks for the info Bill!

So the red paint in the interior stayed the same for 64 and 65 but they 
changed the exterior red for the 65's?

That's odd, I would think that they would paint all the base metal the same 
color and all at once!
