Fuel filters and placement

I have an Earl's plumbing inline filter on the discharge end of my fuel
pressure regulator. I believe I should put one somewhere between the
tank and the press reg too. Are there any delivery issues if I place it
about just ahead of the firewall? Also will it be an NHRA safety issue?
I know the line can't come up the firewall to the engine at a point from
the firewall that is behind the engine. What would be a good choice and
hopefully something not too big.
