RE: 1959 to 1963 rear axle shaft

Hi,

I suspect that since the axles for all the Mopars (except the A bodies
in 64) were all tapered axles, they did not specifically call them that.

The 64 manual describes how to take them apart and put them back. This
group has discoverd that there are a few tricks that are not mentioned
in the FSM.

1) the rear brake drums will separate from the hubs by driving in some
of the studs about 1/8". The drum will pop off the hub.

2) the hub can be removed from the axle by using a heavy duty puller
that uses the lug nuts to hold it in place and then, after the nut is
loosened, an impact gun on the puller will vibrate off the hub.

3) a piece of chain connected to the studs when thrown, will be enough
of a pulling force to pull the axles from the tube (once the backing
place is removed).

Please keep us posted on your progress.

Regards,

K.

Please address private mail -- mail of interest to only one person -- directly to that person. I.e., send parts/car transactions and negotiations as well as other personal messages only to the intended recipient, not to the Clubhouse public address. This practice will protect your privacy, reduce the total volume of mail and fine tune the content signal to Mopar topic. Thanks!
