As for a 72, if the price was right, you did ok. It may have a cast crank, 
but for a street build, it will work. Choose the correct cam and manifold 
combo. Mess this up and it will not run up the potential it has. I like the 
Edelbrock performer RPM series. Take your time and gasket match the heads 
and intake yourself. It is very simple. Have someone degree in the cam and 
go for low end. It is much more fun on a street car. A good water pump and 
flush out your radiator to keep it cool. If it runs hot, you can't have fun. 
You don't need big pistons. 9.5:1 or maybe 10's max. Higher compression is 
not needed. Choose a good out of the box carb. Demons are good, Holleys 
generally need a little work and fine-tuning to get just right. An MSD 6 
series ignition box is a bonus, but not really needed. Balance the bottom 
end and use good rod and main bolts. Studs are not needed. For a good street 
engine this is all I would do , especially if a budget is being set. Just 
paint it and add costly chrome and aluminum goodies later. If it don't run, 
who cares if it is shiny. Others will have other opinions. Choose the ones 
you agree with and go from there. Choose your convertor to go with your cam 
and the gears and tire size you are planning to run. It is all about the 
combo, not big lift and carb and all that magazine bullcrap. I have never 
seen a magazine article yet with dead on info. They inflate every number for 
sales. I have had 3 cars in 3 different magazines and each time they twisted 
some of the info around or reworded it so it sounded better. It made me mad 
, but I delt with it. Just have fun with your build.
