RE: Installing Elec Distributor in 64 Dodge

SB,

You are correct, I am not! Their are two wires coming from the ballast
resister or reduced voltage side, one goes to the coil the other runs to
ignition switch. I stand corrected because the one from the ignition switch
suppled 12v to the coil with the ignition in the start or cranking position.
Funny how bad info sticks, a MoPar mechanic were I worked years ago told me
that and I just believed it until I just looked closely at a schematic. He
told me that the second wire fed through the ignition switch then to the
gauge wire to supply reduced voltage to the voltage regulator on the
instrument panel. NOT! At a quick glance it looked like he was right, but!
I stand corrected and apologize if I misled anyone with bad information.

Herb,

I thought everything under the dash received its power from the welded
splice connection that comes from the alternator charge wire? I have
completely bypassed the ballast resister in a number of cars I upgraded,
with no ill effects. I am not doubting you, just looking for
clarification in case I am wrong.

Thanks
