Carb question

Rich Kinsley '64 Dodge Polara 4dr 318poly w/goodies

I noticed awhile back that my rear carb secondaries were very sooty but 
the front carb sec's were clean. Is it desirable to set the rear carb a 
bit leaner???? I have always made both the same. Maybe I should try 
leaning the rear more?
