Be very, very gentle with the back-up light switches, whether it is the
'62-64 pushbutton variety or the '64-'65 console or '65 column type.  The
plastic in these switches gets incredibly brittle with age, and the switches
are not available new, AFAIK.

The pushbutton switches have been known to get out of phase - the finger on
the bottom of the reverse slide should ride in between the two fingers shown
on Gary's draft page.  If the bracket is bent or the switch cracks the
finger can slip out from between the fingers and cause erratic operation of
the backup lights.

Also, the brass fingers on the pushbutton slides (that hold the buttons in
when depressed) deteriorate with age, allowing the buttons to pop back out
after being pressed - the '64 we just picked up has broken fingers on the
Drive, Neutral and Reverse button slides.  My reverse lights will light as
long as I hold the button in, but go back out as soon as I release the
button and it pops back out.
