So maybe it is my light switch w built in dimmer that is bad?

No!  It only affects the operation of the gauges, lighting is a separate
issue.

Are my dash lights dim because of a bad v limiter?  My new console tach is
bright but the cluster is very dim-and I have all new bulbs-i will do the
bulkhead wires soon...
