Re: thumping sound in motor

Herb,  So far not so good, I drained the oil and took out the filter and didn't find any signs of metal at all. I even cut the filter open and it was minus any metal also. I tried to narrow down the sound but that didn't work out. I really don't think its the rod bearings. Later today I going to pull each plug wire with the motor running and see if that changes anything or can help pinpoint the noise. Someone suggested that I might have a connecting rod hitting the pan, being that I had to use my orginial 361 pan on this 440 due to the different shape of the pan. The newer pans hit the steering rod that go from one side to the other side of the car. I'll let you know what I find out as I go along. Any other ideas would be appreciated.
                                                            Thanks,   Alex
