They pop off with a good pry. It is just a square rubber o ring that holds them on. Nothing wrong with unbolting it though if you are small enuf to get under there.

Are u asking why u cannot get the master cylinder off the fire wall? Did u
unbolt the plunger from the brake pedel? If you are trying to get the plunger
off the master cylinder..Gray just sent the deal...
