starting 65 sport fury w 383

I have a starting problem guys. Probably an easy fix but it has got me. I get a click at the starter I had rebuilt last spring. It is the big starter with solenoid built in. I get zero turn over. Just the click in the solenoid. Took the starter out and when I shorted out the solenoid w 12 volts the thing spun. sounded a little rough like the bearings were not great but it spun and the gear slid outward.. seems like the car should start. I have a relay that is about a year old. Could it be my ignition? BTW got decent battery with lights that are average brightness...

Thanks!
