I don't know if it is just an old tale, but I used to hear that if you ground the valves , the increased compression would cause the engine to use oil. with the old rings. I don't believe it would be a good idea to put new lifters on an old
cam. Might cause a lobe meltdown. Except for having a bent pushrod I
don't believe lifters/p-rods are much of an issue as opposed to the
timing chain/gears. They should have much more life than the chain.
